"Pa's Store."  This is the "John Forbes Store" (John Washington Forbes) on North Main Street in Danville, VA.  Picture was taken in the 1920s.  Jack Morgan (Blanch Forbes Morgan's son) told this funny story about the store. He was down there with Pa one night at closing time.  He got sleepy and crawled under one of the counters and went to sleep.  Pa went home and he and Grandma went to bed.  In the wee hours of morning Grandma said, "Mr. John, where is Jack?"  Pa had to get up and go back to the store and get Jack, who was still asleep.  Jack (and I'm sure the other grandsons) used to deliver groceries in his wagon for Pa.

This caned bottom chair is an example of the handiwork of John Washington Forbes.

The store below is Crews Awning Company on North Main Street in Danville, VA.  John H. Forbes and Bahrendt A. (Bookie) Forbes, sons of John W. Forbes, both worked at Crews'.  Picture was taken about 1932 or 1933.

Ruby Forbes Parker Core ran this store next to their house in Mountain Hill near Ringgold, VA (close to Danville).  This picture was taken in the 1990s, but the store was operational in the late 1940s.  Husband Jimmy Parker ran a dry cleaning business.
