THE FORBES MINI-REUNION, BEAUFORT, SC 16 JUNE 2001
by Alan Forbes
|
The Forbes reunion was planned across the nation
Then, problems and sickness caused a cancellation
Everyone was so sad that they couldn't go
But Bud, up in Michigan yelled, "Wait a minute, whoa."
"I paid money for my ticket and can't get it back,
So I'm going anyway." And he started to pack
Then others responded and gave out with a shout,
"We can't let him go to Beaufort alone and just sit there and pout."
So a few of the determined continued to plan
And trudged off to South Carolina in support of the clan
Pat and Jim were already in place
Anxiously waiting to see everyone's face
Bud flew in from Michigan arriving by plane
Praying for sunshine and hoping no rain
Alan and Mary arrived tired for they musta'
Drove all the way from little North Augusta
Dee and Glen, and Sandy and Dave
Came down from Chesapeake and arrived with a wave
Also from Chesapeake there came Gracie and Pete
Her as beautiful as ever and him with stinky feet
Kitty, David and Flynn came from Atlanta
Saying, "Reunions are as good as a visit from Santa."
Lois and Betty were also in town
They're a lot like Aunt Blanche, they DO get around
Kevin and Sam came on down too
With Stephen and Matthew and Evan to round out the crew
We sat around and told stories of old
Some of them tame and others quite bold
We shared some memories of those who weren't here
With happiness and laughter and an occasional tear
But when it is over, do not be blue
The next one may just happen in 2002
So "Live long and prosper" as they say on Star Trek
But please do not leave 'til I hug your neck
And before we all go, I want you to clap 'til it hurts
To say thanks to Sam for the beautiful T-shirts
If I left anyone out, I apologize from my heart
But what can you expect from a senile old fart
You'll be happy to know that this poem is through
But I want to leave this last thought with you
I love each and every one of you and I really want to shout it
Cause each of you know there's not a damn thing you can do about it
