George, born April 13, 1854 in Pittsylvania County, VA., and John Washington Forbes were brothers and married sisters, Kate and Lula Hamlett.  Kate was born August 16, 1878 in Person County, NC.  Her father was James Harrison Hamlett and her mother was Permelia Catherine Oliver Hamlett.  In their family Bible the following are listed as witnesses at their wedding on January 24, 1900:  John W. Forbes, Jno. Edwards, R. H. Burch, and 1 illegible signature.  George fell on ice and died from a head injury on April 9, 1908.  From 1902 to 1912 Kate lost her husband, George, and all three of their children.  She died October 22, 1947 at Elizabeth Thomas Palevich's ("Liz") home at 820 Noble Avenue, Danville, VA.  Kate was sister to Liz's mother, Myrtle.  Her other two sisters were Mattie Tanner and Mary Hamlett.  A tombstone was placed at Kate's grave in the Forbes-Fitzgerald Family Cemetery (Danville, VA) in 1992 through generous contributions of the Forbes Clan.  Also, at the Forbes-Fitzgerald Family Cemetery is the following tombstone epitaph for George:  "God's Finger Touched Him and He Slept",  "Gone But Not Forgotten."
